President Buhari Relaunches War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, August 8, 2016 relaunched the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) Brigade.
The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Dr Garba Abari made the announcement in Abuja on the occasion of the National and State Commanders meeting of the Community Support Brigade (CSB).
"In this era of insecurity, violence, kidnapping, and other forms of social vices, the role of the Brigade in civil intelligence gathering cannot be over emphasized", he said.
“The present administration has declared its intention to re-launch the Brigade for better performance and bring its activities to the fore” Abari stated, charging members of the Brigade to contribute their quota to make the Change mantra of this administration a reality.
In his remarks, the WAI Brigade National Commander, Mustapha Muhammad charged members to sustain the tempo of responsibility despite non-funding from the government for over three decades.
He called on the federal government to officially recognize and gazette the Brigade as it is the only voluntary organization in Nigeria.
He therefore urged NOA to work out modalities for the recognition of the WAI Brigade for greater efficiency.
In 1984, President Buhari and Tunde Idiagbon launched the WAI programme to instill public morality, social order, civic responsibilities in Nigerians, and promote Nigerian nationalism.
Recall that a pro-Buhari group, Change Ambassadors of Nigeria had in April, 2015, urged President Buhari (then president-elect) to re-introduce the War Against indiscipline (WAI) as soon as he is sworn in on May 29, 2015.
