A former Minister of Interior and 2015 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in Imo State, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho, has dismissed the urban renewal policy of the APC-controlled government of Imo State, describing it as a ruse and a deceit cleverly crafted to deal with perceived enemies of the state government.

Iheanacho, who spoke to newsmen in Owerri, contended that any government urban renewal policy without a human face would not stand the test of time.

He also dismissed Okorocha’s recent move to compensate genuine aggrieved victims of the demolition exercise as a gimmick, an afterthought and a cover-up.

The ex-minister, whose house fence was among structures demolished by the state government, accused the governor of reckless abuse of power.

He stressed that the immunity being enjoyed by governors should be expunged from the nation’s constitution.

Iheanacho, who also denounced the mass demolition of the old Owerri, said that Okorocha’s urban renewal package was a misplacement of priority.

He argued that what the people needed was the provision of the basic necessities of life, youth employment, functional hospitals, well equipped schools, regular payment of workers, salaries, pensions and gratuities as well as an environment conducive for investors.

“My property that was demolished by Okorocha had been there for 30 years and on three occasions, I secured court injunction restraining him from demolishing it but on these three occasions, he (Rochas) disobeyed the court order”.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Okorocha, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, has, in a statement, urged Iheanacho to stop creating wrong impression about the governor.

He said, “The truth is that Captain Iheanacho for obvious political reasons has continued to sustain his media attacks against the governor and the few opponents of the government in the state have leveraged on that to be giving the impression that Okorocha and Iheanacho are at war, when they are not.”
