Manchester City on verge of beating Chelsea to signing Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy

Manchester City are on the verge of completing a move for Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, according to reports in France.

Le10 Sport claims that Pep Guardiola’s side are close to securing a €45 million (£39.6m) deal for the France international and the transfer could be agreed by the end of the week.

Chelsea and Liverpool had also registered their interest in Mendy, but City are now in pole position to complete their second acquisition from Monaco this summer after signing Bernardo Silva for £43m last month.

Mendy was one of Monaco’s star performers as he helped the club beat Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title and reach the semi-final of the Champions League.

The 22-year-old also turned heads with his display on Monaco’s left flank against City in the Champions League knockout stage.
