Man City face FA ban after the Arsenal Carabao Cup final
Even before a ball was kicked at Wembley there was controversy at the Arsenal vs Man City Carabao Cup final.
Arsenal have an excellent record at Wembley and a decent recent cup record against Man City.
But Pep Guardiola’s side look unstoppable this season. And the Spaniard was searching for his first trophy since arriving in England.
Pep Guardiola set for a ban
One of the storylines which has gained attention in the build up to the final is a protest being conducted by Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola, who made his name at Barcelona, and who was born in Catalonia, is firmly behind the independence movement in his homeland.
The man City manager has been wearing a yellow ribbon in politic support. Prior to the Carabao Cup final, the likes of . the Times reported that Guardiola faces action is he continues to wear his ribbon:
Pep Guardiola has been warned that he faces his first touchline ban in English football if he wears a yellow ribbon at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final against Arsenal.
City’s preparations for the first final of the manager’s tenure took an unwelcome turn yesterday when he was charged by the FA for wearing the ribbon in support of jailed pro-independence Catalan politicians. The FA says that the ribbon is promoting a political message and contravenes their rules.
When Guardiola turned up for the final, he was yet again wearing his ribbon.
So will a touchline ban be forthcoming? And what happens if after that ban Guardiola persists with wearing his ribbon?
Man City’s next match is against Arsenal in the Premier League on Thursday night.
