Manchester United are poised to offer Anthony Martial to Borussia Dortmund as part of a bid to sign in-demand winger Christian Pulisic, according to reports.
The Red Devils are planning to hijack Liverpool’s pursuit of USA wonderkid Pulisic, who is a long-term target of Jurgen Klopp and is rated at £40million.
And, according to the Daily Mirror, they are willing to use out-of-favour Martial as a makeweight to steal a march on their rivals.
France international Martial has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford since the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January.
He is said to be frustrated over his bit-part role with the Red Devils, having made just eight Premier League appearances in 2018, and wants to leave for more first-team football.
Juventus are thought to be leading the race for the Frenchman, but Premier League trio Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal are also monitoring his situation.
But the report from the Mirror claims Jose Mourinho has now sanctioned Martial’s exit and is keen to use him in a deal to bring 19-year-old Pulisic to Old Trafford.
Fierce rivals Liverpool are said to be plotting a third bid for the USA international this summer, with Jurgen Klopp keen to bring the talented flyer to Anfield after a long pursuit.
But Mourinho believes United can win the race by giving Dortmund a like-for-like replacement in Martial as part of a £40million deal.
Pulisic has made 41 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
