Manchester United linked with unthinkable signing
Manchester United are all set to lose Nemanja Vidic in the summer and the club captain is clearly very happy about the situation, having been pictured grinning whilst signing his new contract to play in Serie A. Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand's contracts end two, and it's probable at least one will leave but certain both will be older and further from their peak next season.
David Moyes has said he wants to give the young defenders at Manchester United a chance but few believe him. It's not taken him long at Manchester United to become completely untrustworthy on transfer market related comments. That's probably one of his few positive achievements.
What wouldn't be positive is signing Philippe Mexes. That would be negative. Very negative.
The Premier League are linked with the Frenchman in Italy, France and Spain today and hopefully for Manchester United it's just baseless rumours. TMW say Clarence Seedorf of struggling AC Milan doesn't have Mexes in his plans and Manchester United have looked at him as a replacement for Vidic. Bit like replacing a car with a bicycle.
Mexes used to be an excellent player but his commitment to the game has come under question increasingly in recent years. The defender, who turns 32 at the end of this month, has improved a little this season but it still seems AC Milan want him out.
He was linked with Arsenal during the summer 2012 season and even then a move to a top Premier League club seemed unlikely. At the time the Italian media criticised Mexes for getting too fat from eating pasta, something denied by the France team doctor.
