Sambo Dasuki, a former National Security Adviser (NSA), has accused the Federal Government of planning doom for him.
In a fresh motion on notice filed by Joseph Daudu, his counsel, Dasuki said the Nigerian government has planned a double jeopardy for him following three different criminal charges instituted against him in three different courts in Abuja.
He said the Federal Government is on a mission to nail him rather than engage in due process and appropriate legal process. He also accused the Federal Government of “gross” abuse of court process.
Dasuki said: “It was wrong in law and even against natural justice for the government to arraign the defendant before two different high courts of the Federal Capital Territory on the same sections of the law and on the same alleged arms fund.”
The former NSA is facing a 22-count and 13-count charge respectively before Justice Peter Affen and Justice Husieni Bab-Yusuf of the FCT high courts in Mataima.
Both charges border on money laundering and abuse of public office during his tenure as the national security adviser.
He is also facing another trial on illegal possession of firearms among others before Justice Ademola Adeniyi of the Federal High Court in Abuja. All the charges were instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The motion on notice also had it that the two charges be consolidated by the court in the interest of justice.
“The defendant is not afraid of trial but the due process of the law must be followed in the interest of justice,” Dasuki said in the motion.
Hearing for the consolidation of the charges has been adjourned to Wednesday, October 5. Dasuki has been under detention at a Department of State Service facility since December 2015.
He was arrested by the Department of Security Service (DSS) after relased on bail by the court over charges against him by the EFCC.
Although he has questioned his prolonged detention and argued that the EFCC and the DSS are of one and the same entity – the Nigerian government. Justice Affen had said in a ruling that Dasuki was unable to prove the court that EFCC and the DSS are of one entity.
