PDP to APC: time to stop the blame game
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Federal Government to stop the blame game and save the economy.
The party, in a message felicitating with Muslims on Sallah, said Nigerians were hungry for good governance.
The statement issued on behalf of its National Caretaker Commitee Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, by its Chief spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, reads: “We want to use this opportunity once again to celebrate and felicitate with our Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and across the world on this occasion of Eid-El-Kabir as instituted by Allah through Prophet Ibrahim. We want to also urge Nigerians to use this period and pray for the recovery of our ailing economy, the unity and oneness of this country and continue making sacrifices for Nigeria to become great again.
“Mr. President, in his Sallah Message today, again blamed the Acute Economic Recession on the past administration and global economic downturn. Let Mr. President and his party, the APC, be reminded that it took a smart and experienced world-class Economic Team in 2010 to lead Nigerians through a cushioned global financial meltdown and beyond. The “Change” is really with them (APC) and their barrage of falsehood. They were elected to further better the lot of Nigerians, and not to dish out constant complaints on the situation which they mindlessly created with its attendant consequences on our collective destinies.
“It is, therefore, high time they stopped this unnecessary grumbling and concentrate on how to redeem our economy by providing good governance to the people.”
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to constitute a special economic squad.
The deputy Senate president, in a Sallah message, also enjoined the Muslim Ummah to pray for the nation’s quick recovery from economic recession.
Ekweremadu said: “I warned long ago that elections had come and gone and we should move from politics to governance. It is time for governance and we must bring capable hands, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic backgrounds.”.
The senator hailed the nation’s security agencies for arrangements to ensure a hitch-free Sallah celebration.
Former Senate President David Mark, in a statement by his Media Assistant, Paul Mumeh, urged Nigerians to rise up to the socio- political challenges and economic recession .
Mark said : “ We cannot afford to give in to failure on account of economic recession. The only option we have is to evolve strategies to overcome the odds.”
Mark urged the government to lead the way by creating an enabling environment for citizens to pursue and realise their ambitions unhindered.
He stated: “No one can pretend or shy away from the realties on ground that our country is facing hard times. What is required now is to confront the challenges honestly and genuinely.
“One of the ways to face the task may of a necessity require government to take a hard look at its policies and programs and possibly review it in tandem with the present circumstances.”
