Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappe was almost reduced to tears after facing PSG defender Thiago Silva in the French league cup final, his team-mate Danijel Subasic has revealed.
Mbappe's stock has rocketed in recent weeks after the youngster established himself as one of the finest talents in world football, and Subasic admits this has led to opposition players targetting the 18-year-old.
The actions of Brazilian defender Silva best evidence this, claims Subasic, after the PSG captain's 'snapping' tackles on the French youngster was in hope of ruin Mbappe's confidence.
'In the League Cup final we lost 4-1 to PSG and Silva was snapping at Mbappe from the first to the last minute,' Subasic told 24 Sata.
'He really tackled him hard, you could see he went for him and wanted to ruin his confidence.
PSG went on to win the final in emphatic fashion, triumphing with a 4-1 scoreline following a brace from striker Edinson Cavani.
Silva's stifling of Mbappe may have helped the reigning French champions secure the trophy for the fourth consecutive season, but Monaco are plotting to have the last laugh and relieve PSG of their domestic title this year.
The two sides are currently locked at the top of the Ligue 1 table with 77 points each, though Monaco hold the advantage as they have played one game fewer.
Mbappe is certain to continue playing a huge role this season, and Subasic admits he isn't at all surprised by the way his team-mate has burst onto the scene.
'No wonder everyone is crazy about him, he is amazing, plays great and is only 18,' Subasic said.
'He runs like he's riding a motorbike! He has no respect! Which is good, but at the same time in our locker room he is very calm, polite, never pushes himself in front row,' he added.
