Virgil Van Dijk transfer set to top £100m
Chelsea will have to part with more than £100million in fees and wages to get Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk on board.
The Southampton centre-back is being tipped to join Antonio Conte’s men in the summer despite interest from Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
The fee for the 25-year-old is set to become a new world record for a defender, eclipsing the £50million Paris Saint-Germain paid Chelsea for David Luiz in 2014.
And with Van Dijk only extending his contract last summer the Bred-born star has five years left to run on his St Mary’s deal meaning his proposed contract at Chelsea is likely to be for a minimum five years.
The Sun claims the centre-back will command wages of at least £200,000-a-week as Saints cash in on the player they bought from Celtic for £13million in September 2015.
The report also claims Conte is looking at adding another centre-back to his champions elect with John Terry leaving and Zurt Zouma likely to be loaned out.
And claims reports in Italy suggest Chelsea are also interested in Roma’s Kostas Manolas.
Conte is believed to have sent scouts to watch Manolas in action during Roma’s impressive 4-1 win over AC Milan on Sunday.
