The Bauchi State government has bought horses worth N96 million for the state’s six emirate councils, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Nuruddeen Mohammed, has said.
At press conference on the administration’s mid-term report on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture, Mohammed said that the purchase of horses for the emirates was to maintain the tradition and culture of the state.
He said that the Ministry for Local Government Affairs makes monthly statutory contributions to the six emirate councils, Local Government Pension Board, State University and the State Universal Basic Education Board.
The commissioner, who presented his ministry’s score card, disclosed that N137million is spent annually to eradicate polio in the state.
Mohammed said that the ministry serves as liaison body between the three tiers of government, federal, state and councils to ensure prudent release of funds for executing policies and programmes.
He hinted that his ministry during the period under review bought 25 Toyota Hilux and their accessories at the cost of N252 million for security outfits.
Other financial commitments by the ministry, according to him, are the printing and distribution of uniform indigene certificates, and revenue receipts for the 20 councils at N72.9million and N55 million respectively.
