Panic as Saraki set to return to PDP
Fear has gripped members of the Kwara State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over the alleged move by the Senate President, Dr, Bukola Saraki, to return to the opposition party.
In the build0up to the 2015 general elections, Saraki and some top PDP leaders defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their presence helped the APC to win the polls and ousted former President Goodluck Jonathan from office.
Inundated with the reports of Saraki’s return bid, members of the state chapter of the PDP led by its Chairman, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, on Wednesday stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja to appeal to the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, to prevent Saraki from tampering with the party structure in the state.
Oyedepo said that although the state PDP would welcome Saraki and any other politician interested in joining the party, it would however not want the present leadership structure dissolved because it was elected for four years period.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja at the PDP national secretariat, Oyedepo claimed that Secondus had allayed their fear that the structure would not be thrown open for Saraki.
According to him, the state chapter is ready to make concessions to Saraki on matters that had not been settled including elected offices, like the Senate, Presidency among others, provided that the structure is not tampered with.
