The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded plans to scrap one of its organs, the Board of Trustees (BoT) and replace it with Councils of Elders (CE), even as the party agreed to effect the change in it constitution at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting today.
The party had postponed it BoT meeting earlier slated for March 22nd till next week, but at the caucus meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday night, it was agreed that the Board of Trustees (BoT) should be replaced with Elders Council.
Article 13 of the APC constitution states clearly the power of the BoT as an important organ, which include being an embodiment of the conscience, the soul and sanctity of the party and shall be the mirror of highest standard of morality in the party; shall intervene in all disputes and crisis to ensure its stability at all time.
It is also the Bot that shall hold all the properties of the party in trust for the party and shall serve as the custodian of such assets, advice on and when considered necessary initiate policies for the guardian of the party, among many other powers given to it.
Blueprint investigations revealed that the caucus meeting would have set up a constitution review committee, but was helpless because it has no power because only the National Working Committee (NEW) or the National Executive Committee (NEC) could do that according to the party’s constitution.
A dependable source who was in the know of what was discussed at the caucus meeting with President Buhari, said: “The meeting agreed to replace BoT with Council of Elders. So, there won’t be anything like BoT again. There won’t also be anything like Bot chairman, secretary and the rest”.
The source also informed our correspondent in confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his happiness over turn out of prominent members at the meeting.
The caucus meeting was attended by the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker House of Rep., Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, governor, serving Ministers among so many others.
